Morrissey Cancels Stockholm Concert: 'Zero Music Industry Support'

Iconic British singer Morrissey, known for his role as frontman of The Smiths, has abruptly canceled his upcoming concert in Stockholm, citing a complete lack of support from the music industry. The announcement, made via a deeply personal post on his website Morrissey Central, has stirred a wave of concern and confusion among fans.

An Artist Without a Label

Now 66, Morrissey revealed that his crew had grown “travel-weary beyond belief” after moving through six countries in just seven days. Despite what he calls “sensational” ticket sales, he claimed that no record label will release his music and no radio will play it.

“We have thousands upon thousands of friends [in Scandinavia], yet absolutely zero music industry support,” he wrote.

The artist went on to highlight his deep frustration over being unable to reach cities like Stockholm, Reykjavik, Trondheim, and Helsinki — places he and his crew had been dreaming of performing in.

A History of Friction

This isn’t the first time Morrissey has found himself at odds with the music world. Over the past decade, he has repeatedly spoken out about the changing dynamics of the industry and the challenges of staying relevant without traditional label backing. However, this latest incident underscores just how stark the divide has become.

“What does this tell us about the state of Art in 2025?” he asked in his statement — a rhetorical plea that suggests he sees this as a broader cultural issue, not just a personal one.

Fans Respond with Mixed Emotions

The Instagram post containing the same announcement has sparked debate in the comments section. While some followers offered their support, others questioned the logic behind booking an extensive European tour without financial backing.

One fan wrote, “Why schedule so many dates without proper funding?” Another added, “The reasoning makes absolutely zero sense.”

Upcoming Shows Still On (For Now)

Despite canceling the Stockholm date, Morrissey assured fans that a planned Berlin concert on June 27 would still happen — “with the grace of God,” he added.

His North American tour is set to resume in September, followed by a run through South America in October. No additional cancellations have been announced, but fans remain wary as financial constraints continue to loom over the tour.
