Lionel Richie Postpones Chicago Concert After Dizzy Spell at Earth, Wind & Fire Show, With United Center Date Moved
CHICAGO, IL — Lionel Richie has postponed his Friday concert at Chicago’s United Center after a health scare during a show earlier this week with Earth, Wind & Fire.
The tour stop did not immediately get a new date. Live Nation said doctors advised Richie to rest and return to full health after he felt dizzy onstage in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
What happened onstage in Saint Paul
Richie was performing “Dancing on the Ceiling” Wednesday night when he needed to sit down because he was feeling dizzy. He later continued with “Three Times a Lady” before heading backstage for intermission and not returning.
According to the report, Richie was later taken to the hospital as a precaution, though his camp has not disclosed a diagnosis.
Live Nation says the Chicago and Columbus shows are on hold
In a statement shared with ABC7 Chicago, Live Nation said Richie had been advised by doctors to rest, leading to the postponement of both the June 26 Chicago show and the June 27 concert in Columbus, Ohio.
The company said Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire plan to return to the stage Tuesday, June 30, in Pittsburgh. It also said rescheduled dates for the postponed shows will be announced soon.
A tour launch fans were expecting to build momentum
The postponed United Center date was part of Richie’s first performance run with Earth, Wind & Fire on this tour. The drummer for the group said Richie was dealing with dehydration, adding a possible explanation for the onstage problem.
For fans in Chicago, the delay is a disappointment, but organizers said they expect to have updated ticket information once the new dates are set.
