Black and Bronze Bronzeville Music Fest Returns to Armstrong Park With Tributes to Chicago Soul, Gospel, Hip-Hop and Jazz on Saturday, August 29
CHICAGO, IL — Black & Bronze: A Bronzeville Music Fest is set to return to Armstrong Park on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, with a full afternoon of music, dance, wellness and neighborhood programming. The second annual event is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is being framed as a celebration of Bronzeville’s cultural legacy on Chicago’s South Side.
Organizers say the gathering is meant to honor the neighborhood’s place in Black history while also spotlighting artists and community leaders carrying that heritage forward. The lineup includes tributes to Chicago soul and R&B, hip-hop, gospel and jazz, alongside spoken word, movement performances, family activities and local vendors.
Tributes to Chicago’s music legacy lead the day
The festival’s music program is built around homage. Scheduled tributes include Chicago soul and R&B featuring Jessica Lá Rel and Vee Armstrong, Chicago hip-hop with A.J.IV, Da’ Lightbeam, Moyana and Dai Raps, Chicago gospel with Monica Anissa, Tramaine Parker, Skii George, Apollo Robinson, Marquetta Jackson, 3DC and David Wilson, and Chicago jazz with Khrys Royalle.
The event also nods to the artists who helped shape the city’s sound across generations, naming figures such as Nat King Cole, Earth, Wind & Fire, Sam Cooke and Common as part of its inspiration. Spoken word poets including Eros The Poet, Faith Overallat & Nuff Said, Josh Paul and T’Aura The Poet are also scheduled to take part, giving the day a mix of performance styles that extends beyond music alone.
Dance battles, wellness sessions and family activities fill Armstrong Park
Beyond the stage, the fest is set to turn the park into a broader community event. Planned activities include the “Prime Time With Lime” footwork dance battle, a Battle of the Bands, performances by ChiBuck Movement, 3DC and JC4U, African drumming and dancing from Victoria Djembe & Dancers, line dancing tutorials and a fashion show featuring Swag The Runway.
Health and wellness offerings will include a basketball tournament and dunk contest by The Denard Bros, a hip-hop dance workshop with Diva Dance Studio Bronzeville, Pilates with Melanin Matters, roller skating with Party Movers, HIIT training with Coach Julius and yoga with Spiritchill Wellness. Families will find a kids zone with story time, bounce houses, a gaming truck, face painting, frozen treats, beat making and STEM activities.
Bronzeville history, local vendors and elder seating are part of the plan
Organizers are also using the festival to highlight Bronzeville’s historical role through an archival walkway exhibition focused on Black Chicago and the neighborhood’s broader cultural influence. A Black Metropolis Market will feature local businesses, while the Sam Cooke Food Court will provide food options for attendees throughout the day.
The event description says elders will have access to shaded seating in a Legacy Lounge, and it encourages guests to bring lawn chairs, blankets and family members. Registration for the festival includes permission for Black & Bronze to use event photos and video in publications, news releases and online communications connected to the festival’s mission, underscoring the event’s dual role as a celebration and a public-facing community project.
