Golden Gate Park’s Month of Music Begins With Dead & Co., Zack Bryan, and Outside Lands

SAN FRANCISCO — Golden Gate Park has officially transformed into the heart of live music this August, launching a three-weekend concert marathon starting with Dead & Company. With over 60,000 fans expected per day, the iconic San Francisco park is turning into what organizers call “the music capital of the world.”

A Legendary Start With Dead & Company

The first weekend belongs to the Grateful Dead legacy. The band’s offshoot, Dead & Company, kicked things off Friday and continues with performances through the weekend. Allen Scott, President of Concerts and Festivals at Another Planet Entertainment, said the entire setup is a tribute to the band’s history.

“This is all celebrating the history of Dead and Company and the music of the Grateful Dead,” Scott explained. “There are nods to that legacy throughout the site.”

Outside Lands and the First Country Concert Ever at the Park

Week two will bring Outside Lands, one of the nation’s top multi-genre festivals. Then comes a major first: Golden Gate Park will host its first-ever country concert, headlined by Zack Bryan and Kings of Leon, bringing a new vibe to the space.

“We’re leaning into a full-on country experience that weekend,” Scott added.

Massive Economic Boost and Full Security Deployment

City leaders are celebrating more than music. San Francisco officials estimate the shows will generate $150 million in economic activity. Hotels are already reporting full bookings, and restaurants, coffee shops, and local vendors are preparing for the boom.

“It’s great for hotels, restaurants, and even kids running lemonade stands,” said San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie.

To ensure public safety, San Francisco Police Department will have full officer deployment each weekend, said Interim Police Chief Paul Yep.

Neighbors React: Excitement Meets Chaos

For nearby residents, the events are a mix of excitement and inconvenience.

“Parking gets crazy, and there’s chaos, but it’s also a big win for local business,” said local resident Kevin Wetzel.

The city has prepared for the spike in traffic and strongly encourages public transportation.

More Free Concerts Coming in September

Mayor Lurie also announced Shaboozey will headline a free concert at Civic Center on September 13, continuing the city’s push to reestablish itself as a national music destination.
