Benton County Schools Announce Two-Hour Delay Monday as Officials Assess Weather and Road Conditions
FOWLER, IN — The Benton Community School Corporation announced a two-hour delay for Monday morning, citing the need for more daylight and additional time to assess potentially hazardous weather and road conditions before buses begin their routes.
District Gives Families Early Notice for Planning
School officials issued the notice Thursday evening to give families ample time to adjust schedules. The district said the delayed start allows transportation staff to evaluate morning travel conditions and ensure that all students, bus drivers, and commuters can begin the day safely.
The delay applies to all Benton Community School Corporation campuses, including Benton Central Jr.-Sr. High School and surrounding elementary schools.
Sheriff’s Department Warns of Slick or Foggy Roads
The Benton County Sheriff’s Department also shared the announcement, urging residents to use caution during the early morning commute. Overnight weather could lead to slick patches or dense fog, which can reduce visibility and increase travel risks on rural roads.
Officials noted that while conditions are not yet severe, the delay is being implemented out of an abundance of caution.
Updates Possible if Overnight Conditions Change
The district emphasized that additional delays or closures could be issued if conditions worsen. Parents, students, and staff are encouraged to monitor the school corporation’s official communication channels for real-time updates.
