Broadway Theatre League Launches New Era in Scranton With Kinky Boots Opening Valentine’s Weekend
SCRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA — The Broadway Theatre League is entering a new chapter in partnership with the Scranton Cultural Center, launching its expanded vision with the six-time Tony Award–winning musical Kinky Boots, arriving in the city just in time for Valentine’s Day weekend 2026.
The newly unified organization will continue presenting national touring Broadway productions while expanding its slate to include a broader range of entertainment and cultural programming for northeastern Pennsylvania audiences.
A New Partnership Strengthens Scranton’s Performing Arts Scene
The merger between the Broadway Theatre League and the Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple marks a significant step forward for live entertainment in the region. Organizers say the collaboration allows for greater flexibility, more diverse programming, and continued access to top-tier Broadway tours.
With the Weinberg Theatre serving as the primary venue, the partnership aims to elevate Scranton’s profile as a destination for major touring productions and special events.
Why Kinky Boots Is the Perfect Kickoff
Kinky Boots features music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper and a book by Harvey Fierstein, combining high-energy performances with a heartfelt story of acceptance and innovation. The musical is based on the 2005 film and went on to win six Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
The story follows Charlie Price, who inherits his family’s struggling shoe factory and finds unexpected inspiration through an unconventional partnership that leads to a bold new product — sturdy stilettos designed for drag performers. At its core, the show explores themes of identity, teamwork, and embracing difference.
