Chamber Music Columbus Opens 78th Season With ‘VIVO: Momentum’ Concert

CHICAGO — Chamber Music Columbus is set to kick off its 78th season with an energetic start, partnering once again with the VIVO Music Festival for a performance titled “Momentum” on Aug. 31 at 3 p.m. at the Southern Theatre in downtown Columbus.

A High-Energy Season Opener

The concert will feature a lively blend of styles, beginning with Aaron Jay Kernis’ 100 Greatest Dance Hits — a postmodern work for guitar and string quartet that playfully explores various dance forms across four movements. The program will continue with Ottorino Respighi’s musical setting of Percy Bysshe Shelley’s gothic poem The Sunset, and close with Felix Mendelssohn’s String Octet, performed alongside VIVO NEXT Fellows cellist Liam Battle and violist Isabella Prater.

Upcoming Performances in the 2025-26 Season

Chamber Music Columbus has planned an impressive lineup of international talent for the remainder of the season, including:

  • VOCES8 – The Grammy-nominated British a cappella ensemble celebrates 20 years of music-making with their album Twenty. (Oct. 25, 7 p.m.)
  • Leonkoro Quartet – Winners of the 2022 Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition and youngest competitors in the event’s history. (Feb. 21, 2026, 4 p.m.)
  • Le Consort – A Paris-based quartet specializing in the baroque trio sonata genre. (March 14, 2026, 7 p.m.)
  • Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Woodwind Quartet – Showcasing top musicians from the world-famous ASMF chamber orchestra. (April 18, 2026, 7 p.m.)
