Coastal California Weather: Sunshine Follows Foggy Mornings Through Thursday

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Drivers along Southern California’s coast should prepare for foggy mornings followed by sunny afternoons through Thursday.
Foggy Mornings for Commuters
Patchy fog is expected to linger until about 11 a.m. Sunday, especially along I-5 and Highway 163, before skies turn clear. Winds could also gust up to 20 mph on Monday morning, creating additional challenges for high-profile vehicles.
“Morning commuters from La Jolla to Chula Vista should anticipate low visibility during early hours,” the NWS San Diego office reported.
Residents are encouraged to keep headlights on during fog and allow extra travel time.
Sunny Afternoons With Comfortable Highs
By late morning each day, skies are forecast to clear, bringing highs in the 70s to low 80s across coastal San Diego.
“Fog will clear to mostly sunny skies with highs near 82 on Sunday, with a similar pattern holding through Thursday,” forecasters explained.
Nighttime clouds will return daily, with steady onshore flow keeping the mornings damp and cool before bright afternoons take over.
Midweek Cooling Trend
A slight cooldown is expected midweek, with highs dropping into the low 70s by Wednesday.
- Sunday: Patchy fog before 11 a.m., then sunny, high near 82
- Monday: Fog early, then sunny, high 80, low 65
- Tuesday: Clouds increasing, high 75, low 65
- Wednesday: Morning clouds, partly sunny, high 73, low 64
- Thursday: Cloudy early, then sunny, high 74
“This onshore flow will hold steady through midweek, with more updates possible if fog deepens or spreads inland,” the weather service noted.
The pattern highlights a classic late-summer stretch for coastal California: cool, foggy mornings transitioning to sunny afternoons. For more weather updates and community coverage, visit ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
