Colorado Husband Admits He Waited Hours Before Calling 911 After ‘Accidentally’ Shooting Wife During Late-Night Argument, Deputies Say

AURORA, CO – A Colorado husband is accused of shooting his wife during a late-night fight and waiting hours before calling for help — even though their two young daughters were asleep just feet away, deputies say. What he claims was an accidental discharge has now become a chilling domestic homicide case that prosecutors say contradicts his story in almost every way.

Deputies Say the Wife Was Already “Cold and Stiff” When They Arrived

Authorities say 37-year-old David O’Grady initially told dispatchers he accidentally fired his gun while “clearing it” and then spent “about an hour” performing CPR on his wife, 29-year-old Taylor Dawn Last.

But investigators now say that timeline was a lie.

Court documents describe Taylor’s body as “cold and stiff to the touch”, leading deputies to conclude she had been dead for several hours before anyone dialed 911.

Inside the couple’s home on Shawnee Way, investigators found Taylor lying on her back with her arm across her chest — an image deputies called deeply disturbing.

Investigators Say Argument Escalated Into Deadly Violence

According to the affidavit, O’Grady admitted he and Taylor had gotten into a heated argument about “a party.” During that argument, he knew the gun was loaded.
He allegedly fired a round into their bed — then pointed the weapon toward Taylor as she entered the room, pulling the trigger.

Investigators say the shot struck Taylor in the chest, killing her almost instantly.

The couple’s 6-year-old and 4-year-old daughters were asleep upstairs.

They reportedly heard “loud arguing” followed by a bang so loud it woke them up.
The children also told investigators they saw their father throw something at Taylor before she fell onto the bed — and that colorful broken items were scattered around the room.

“Taylor had been dead for a while,” deputies wrote in the affidavit, contradicting the husband’s claims.

Children’s Statements Paint a Darker Picture

The statements from the children, according to investigators, did not match O’Grady’s explanation of an accidental shooting.

The kids described:

  • Loud arguing before the gunshot
  • Their mother falling backward with her hands up
  • Broken objects that mysteriously disappeared by the time deputies arrived

These claims suggest a violent confrontation — not a gun-cleaning accident.

Even more chilling: deputies say O’Grady’s mother was also inside the home during the shooting.

Family Devastated: “The Unthinkable Happened”

Taylor’s aunt wrote on GoFundMe:

“This was an unimaginable tragedy… a tragic act of domestic violence. These sweet girls are now without both of their parents.”

Family members say Taylor was a devoted mother, describing her death as both shocking and irreversible.

O’Grady is now charged with:

  • First-degree murder
  • Domestic violence

He remains behind bars awaiting trial.
