Glasgow, Montana Weather Alert: Smoke and Thunderstorms May Slow Travel on U.S. Highway 2

GLASGOW, Mont. — Northeast Montana drivers should prepare for smoky skies Tuesday and a thunderstorm risk by Wednesday, creating potential travel hazards along U.S. Highway 2, according to the National Weather Service in Glasgow .

Smoke Reduces Visibility Tuesday

Forecasters say light winds shifting east to southeast will spread smoke across Valley County through Tuesday afternoon.

“Air quality could dip in the Milk River Valley as smoke lingers,” weather officials cautioned.

Highs will reach 86 degrees Tuesday with smoky skies overhead, while overnight lows hold near 58 degrees.

Thunderstorms Build Wednesday

By Wednesday, conditions will turn stormy with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, increasing through the afternoon.

“Stronger wind gusts up to 26 mph are possible in exposed areas as storms develop,” the NWS warned.

Temperatures are forecast to rise near 89 degrees before storms arrive.

Stronger System Thursday Into the Weekend

By Thursday, a more organized storm system will raise rain chances to 40%, bringing cooler air into the region.

  • Thursday: High 87°, storms possible, low 57°
  • Friday: High 82°, unsettled with storms, low 57°
  • Saturday: High 73°, showers likely, low 53°

“Residents should charge devices and secure outdoor equipment ahead of stronger winds and shifting skies,” officials added.

Showers may linger into Sunday as cooler conditions continue.
