Hawlin Callin’ to Headline Sperryville’s Free Summer Concert, August 21

SPERRYVILLE, VA — The scenic banks of the Thornton River will come alive on Thursday, August 21 when local favorite Hawlin Callin’ takes the stage for the next installment of the Sperryville Summer Concert Series. The free community event, organized by the Rappahannock Association for Arts and Community (RAAC) and the Sperryville Community Alliance, will kick off at 6:00 p.m., with gates opening at 5:00 p.m.

A Blend of Blues, Reggae, and Americana

Known for their rich mix of blues, reggae, backwoods country, Americana, and classic rock, Hawlin Callin’ has become a staple in the Rappahannock County music scene. Band members Robert “Smiggy” Smith, Vincent Day, Dinah Pherson, Andrew Carter, and Terry Waggener bring decades of musical chemistry to their performances, creating an experience that’s both nostalgic and refreshingly original. Fans can expect an eclectic setlist — with even a touch of bossa nova — in a laid-back riverside setting.

Part of a Growing Local Tradition

The Sperryville Summer Concert Series has been drawing residents and visitors every third Thursday from May through September for the past five years. This year’s events continue to foster a welcoming atmosphere, where families can spread out on the grass with blankets and chairs while enjoying the music. Guests can sample food from New Iberia Kitchen, grab sweet treats from C&C Frozen Treats, and sip craft beverages from local spots like Copper Fox Distillery and Veditz Company Brewing.

Backed by Community Support

The concert is made possible in part through funding from the PATH Foundation’s Better Together Grant, which helps support public events that strengthen community bonds. Organizers say the August 21 show is expected to draw one of the largest crowds of the summer, thanks to Hawlin Callin’s loyal following and their reputation for high-energy, crowd-pleasing performances.
