Jake Duby talks Lollapalooza and Into The Industry [INTERVIEW] 1

Dennis: It is so great to see you’ll be opening for Marshmello at Tao Nightclub on Friday for the Official Lollapalooza Aftershow and headlining Tito’s stage on Saturday at 7:30! How does it feel to be here as part of the 30th year of the Lollapalooza festival?

Jake: Its great seeing things come full circle as I’ve gone to and worked lollapalooza for years and so now Coming back as an artist is a dream come true. My parents friends used to go to Lollapalooza and once I was booked, I kept hearing stories about how they all had been when there was around 1000 people in attendance. So now being able to have my name on a lineup for the 30th anniversary with 400,000 attendees is unbelievable.

Dennis: Do you have any COVID concerns going into it? Will you be taking extra precautions?

Jake: I have received my full vaccination and so has my team. From the artist side, Lollapalooza has done an incredible job ensuring that people are safe and so I commend them for that. I’m really looking forward to being able to perform for crowds and cant wait to see people enjoy their time around others again after such a tough past year.

Dennis: Tell me more about your “Into The Industry” content series that you’re working on?

Jake: It’ll be a series where my manager Sam White and myself dissect and tell all as we gain experience literally getting “into the industry” from both the artist and management side of things. We each of networked our way into pretty substantial levels of responsibility on the venue side where we will be overseeing promotions for 3 night clubs in Lexington KY while simultaneously building our brands as an artist and manger.

Our goal with creating the amount of content we want to create is to offer other people who are interested in doing what we are doing the opportunity to learn from both our mistakes as well as our hopeful wins along this journey. We both are chasing our dreams and with the access that people have to attention via the internet now a-days, we think that with a little guidance and community, people who may not have decided to make the leap of faith that we have will find the confidence in knowing that people like us, who literally know nothing, are able to do what they love and figure out how to get “into the industry” along the way.

Dennis: You’ve recently released two singles, one for “Run Into You” and the other for “Alive” tell me more about them, please.

Jake: So alive was the first track we started working on. We wanted to make a track that made us both just FEEL GOOD. It was the summer time and we wanted to make a track that made others feel ALIVE and so after finding the vocals for alive, we were able to piece together the parts to put out what was our first release.

Run into you was a bit of a last second thing where Landon Ryle and I decided to make another track to debut it around Lollapalooza. It cane together really easily because we both had a similar vision for what we wanted to create. Elise Del Mar who wrote and sang on the track also saw our vision and nailed it. The song is very passionate and emotional which you can feel in the vocals and lyrics. Elise had a personal experience that created the story which became “Run Into You”.

Dennis: You’ve (kind of) moved away from sports in your life to pursue being a DJ, is sports fully out of your life or are you merely taking a break from it?

Jake: Sports will never be out of my life, specifically basketball which I played growing up. Even though I dont have a lot of time to play sports nowadays, I will forever be a fan. It plays a huge role in my life and gives me something to be passionate about outside of music.

Dennis: I have been asking a number of artists already, but, how would you describe the power of music?

Jake: Music can change moods. Music can inspire people to change their life. Take action. Music is something that can gather people and make them forget about all the everyday things that they struggle with. Music is an escape for so many. The reason I am passionate about music enough to produce it, I don’t produce or perform for clout or to be important, but I want to improve the quality of people’s lives. I want people to experience life in the way that I have because of music.

Dennis: Do you have any more shows coming up?

Jake: Yes, I will be playing at Breakaway Ohio as well as upcoming shows at my residencies.

Dennis: What do you have planned for the remainder of the year?

Jake: I plan to consistently release original tracks as well as some fun remixes and of course my mashups. I’ll be playing regularly as well.

Dennis: Where can people find out more about you?

Jake: My instagram @dj.jake.duby and Website www.jakedubymusic.com as well as all streaming platforms are the best place to see who I am and what I do.

Dennis: Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions and I look forward to catching your set on Saturday! Be safe!!

Jake: Thank you so much, I appreciate you taking the time to get to know me and a bit of my story. I hope we can reconnect in the future and that someone reading this can hopefully take this as a sign to make their own journey “into the industry”.
