Jenny is a songwriter that grew up listening to band’s like Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Tori Amos, Counting Crows, Foo Fighters, Fiona Apple, Neil Young, & Johnny Cash.
Her songwriting is not limited to any one specific style. You can hear bits and pieces of the music she listened to growing up, scattered in her songs.
Jenny is currently working with producer Jaben Pennell at Vibehouse Studios. It is her ambition to provide her listeners thought-provoking, listenable songs. Her style may often lead you into your own world of thoughts and experiences—never actually telling you exactly what the song means. Jenny explains, “It’s better to leave listeners the option to interpret what it means to them. We are all people struggling with feelings of love, hate, guilt, dissatisfaction. I connect with feelings more than an exact experience. I grew up listening to music that allowed me to decide what the song meant to me. It allowed me to feel. Listening to that style of music made it okay to be myself. I have always struggled to find a place I fit in, but I can always find a place in the music I listen to—and I hope I can do the same for other people. It’s nice not to have to feel alone.”
In her live performances, she plays with her long-time band mate bass guitarist Mike Orr. What makes her performances so special is because you get to hear her beautifully produced songs stripped-down bare with just Jenny’s acoustic guitar and Mike’s electrified bass. Together, they produce a sound like no other. Jenny has always been a fan of watching other bands perform their songs within an intimate setting, down to the bare-minimum. “No one does that anymore, no one produces their songs so you can listen to them in the car or wherever, and then goes out and showcases them the way they were originally written. I miss that.”
