Kiana Valenciano – No Rush
Biography: Meet Kiana Valenciano. The Filipino Manila based singer has already made a name for herself in her native Philippines and is poised to bring her Neo-soul/Future R&B sound to the rest of the world. Music has always been a permeating force in Kiana’s life. Her father, Gary Valenciano, is one of the Philippines’ most prolific musicians with a three decade spanning career. Her two brothers Gab and Paulo also work in the industry as a variety show producer and concert director respectively.
Kiana’s introduction as an artist was in 2017 with the independently released single “Does She Know,” which to date has garnered over 7 million Spotify streams. The following year Kiana released her debut EP, “Grey,” which was nominated for the 2019 Awit Awards (the biggest awards in the Philippines) for Best Performance by a Female Artist. In 2019, Kiana continued her relentless pace and put out her first full-length album “See Me.”
Today Kiana shares the first single to her next body of work with “No Rush.” Sensual guitars and pulsating synths hover over a sturdy four-on-the-floor beat to provide a bed for Kiana’s luscious vocal melodies, which ebb upward toward the victorious culmination of the track’s energy in the chorus. Producer Billy Davis’ (BrockHampton, Denzel Curry, NoName, Smino) genius touch is readily apparent in the relentless, thumping bass line. Combined with Kiana’s soulful interjections, the songs takes the listener to a nostalgic moment: the haze and energy of a club in the 2000s, spewing good vibrations all over the night.
“This is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever created,” Billy Davis says. “I see the tune banging out in Asia, Australia and really pumping in UK/Europe.”
Kiana adds: “I had the lyrics and a melody and once Billy started playing on the keys, I started singing along and it just went on from there. Often times couples get into arguments because of insecurities and pressure and I wrote this thinking about how sometimes you just have to reassure your partner that you’re on the same page and there’s no need to rush the natural flow of the relationship.”
About Billy Davis: Billy Davis has established himself as a tastemaker in the local urban scene. His unique sound, positive approach, and sheer drive has piqued the interest of many international artists, who have become not just contemporaries but friends.
He has collaborated with Goldlink and Brockhampton, music directing and performing with them both on triple j’s Like A Version, as well as music directing and performing in Goldlink’s NPR Tiny Desk. Denzel Curry appears on standout track ‘Goldfish’ from his debut album.
2018 saw the release of Billy Davis’ single ‘Shoulda Known’ ft. American R&B sister duo VanJess and Matt McGhee. The track received great radio support in Australia via tastemaker sites, community radio and was added to spot rotation on triple j.
Billy has shared the stage with Anderson Paak, NoName, Blackalicious, Thundamentals, Touch Sensitive and most recently Jessica Mauboy.
Billy has played at Australia’s most recognised festivals including Let Them Eat Cake, Golden Plains, Laneway Festival, and Lost Paradise, and received accolades from Hypebeast, High Snobiety, LNWY, Acclaim, Purple Sneakers and Red Bull Music, just to name a few.
Billy’s musical inklings began young. Born in the western suburbs of Melbourne, he was raised by his single mother after his father tragically passed away when he was only three.
A musical juggernaut, Billy’s band The Good Lords is constantly evolving, morphing, and expanding, and features up to 11 members on stage at any given moment. Collaboration, with his band and other artists, it at the heart of everything he does.
