Lake Tahoe Under Lake Wind Advisory With Gusts Up to 30 MPH, Says National Weather Service

LAKE TAHOE, California/Nevada — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for Lake Tahoe, warning of dangerous boating conditions through 8 p.m. Monday evening.
The advisory, released early Monday morning, forecasts southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts reaching up to 30 mph. Waves on the lake are expected to rise between 1 and 3 feet, with sudden bursts of stronger winds and higher waves possible during developing showers and thunderstorms.
Risks for Small Boats and Water Activities
The NWS cautioned that small boats, kayaks, and paddle boards will be particularly vulnerable in the rough conditions and could easily capsize. Officials strongly recommend that those planning recreational activities stay off the water until conditions improve.
“Check lake conditions before heading out and be prepared for a sudden increase in winds and wave heights,” the NWS said in its advisory. “Consider postponing boating activities on the lake until a day with less wind.”
