Merida Trio to Perform Schubert, Beach, and Babadjanian at Rush Hour Concerts

CHICAGO — Classical music lovers are in for an intimate summer evening as the Merida Trio takes the stage for Rush Hour Concerts at St. James Cathedral on Tuesday, August 5 at 5:45 p.m. Presented by Classical Music Chicago, the program will feature piano trios by Franz Schubert, Amy Beach, and Arno Babadjanian.
The Merida Trio — Charlene Kluegel (violin), Jean Hatmaker (cello), and Katherine Petersen (piano) — will offer a 45-minute performance that blends well-known Romantic-era beauty with early 20th-century American lyricism and Armenian intensity.
The Program
- Franz Schubert – Piano Trio in B-flat major, D. 28
- Amy Beach – Piano Trio, Op. 150
- Arno Babadjanian – Piano Trio in F-sharp minor
The variety ensures audiences will experience a rich emotional and stylistic journey, from Schubert’s Viennese warmth to Beach’s pioneering American voice, and Babadjanian’s passionate, folk-infused harmonies.
