LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – Acclaimed cellist and Cal State Fullerton professor Bongshin Ko will take the stage at Walt Disney Concert Hall on August 21 as the featured soloist for the Korean American Music Foundation Benefit Concert. The event promises a blend of classical works, contemporary arrangements, and cross-genre surprises that reflect Ko’s remarkable career.

A Prestigious Career of Global Recognition

Ko’s upcoming Los Angeles performance follows a series of celebrated appearances at prestigious venues worldwide. In October 2023, she graced the stage at Carnegie Hall in New York City, followed by a major appearance in Central Park in September 2024. She was also invited to perform at the Korean War Memorial Concert, “In Remembrance of Our Heroes”, marking the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice.

That concert, presented by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of South Korea and supported by several international organizations, highlighted Ko’s artistry with the Seocho Philharmonia Orchestra at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium. Her performances of Ernest Bloch and Anton Razek works received wide acclaim, underscoring her ability to combine technical precision with emotional depth.

Program Highlights for the Los Angeles Concert

At the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Ko’s program will feature an eclectic mix spanning classical, K-pop, and R&B influences. Audience members can expect to hear works by Max Bruch and Antonio Vivaldi, alongside crossover selections designed to appeal to diverse listeners.

One of the night’s highlights will be Vivaldi’s “Concerto for Two Cellos,” in which Ko will be joined by Kevin Mills, a Cal State Fullerton alum and accomplished cellist in his own right. Their collaboration promises to bring both virtuosity and passion to the stage, blending tradition with modern sensibilities.

A Celebration of Culture and Community

The benefit concert is organized in partnership with the Koreatown Youth & Community Center as part of its 50th anniversary celebration. Proceeds will support music and cultural education programs, reinforcing the role of the arts in bridging communities across Los Angeles.

A VIP reception will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the main performance at 7 p.m., giving attendees a chance to engage with performers and supporters of the Foundation before the concert begins.

Bongshin Ko’s Lasting Legacy

Recognized internationally for her expressive interpretations and dedication to music education, Ko continues to inspire both audiences and students. Her career spans continents, with performances across the United States, Europe, and Asia. Beyond the concert stage, she is celebrated for her commitment to mentoring the next generation of cellists and advancing the appreciation of classical music worldwide.

Her return to Walt Disney Concert Hall is seen not just as another performance but as a milestone reaffirming her place among today’s leading cellists. With her artistry, Ko bridges cultures, connects generations, and expands the reach of classical music into broader artistic spaces.

For Los Angeles audiences, this August concert will be more than a showcase of technical mastery—it will be a celebration of heritage, artistry, and the unifying power of music. Stay connected with ChicagoMusicGuide.com for more updates on global performances and artist spotlights.
