My Chemical Romance to Bring “Long Live: The Black Parade” Tour to Chicago’s Soldier Field

CHICAGO, IL — Emo icons My Chemical Romance will headline Soldier Field on Friday, August 29, as part of their “Long Live: The Black Parade” Tour, giving Chicago fans a chance to experience the band’s most famous album performed live from start to finish. The concert follows their Toronto date earlier this week and marks one of the most anticipated reunion stops of the summer.
Performing The Black Parade in Full
The tour highlights the entirety of the band’s 2006 landmark album The Black Parade, alongside other fan favorites and deep cuts from their career. With its blend of theatrical punk, arena rock, and raw emotion, the album cemented My Chemical Romance as one of the defining voices of the 2000s emo movement.
The Soldier Field setlist will also include hits from their breakthrough 2004 album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, such as “Helena” and “I’m Not Okay (I Promise).”
Special Guest: Devo
Opening the show will be Devo, the pioneering new wave band best known for their cult hit “Whip It.” Their inclusion as openers adds a cross-generational flavor, pairing emo’s biggest names with one of alternative rock’s most influential innovators.
Tickets in High Demand
As of this week, only 1% of tickets remained available on resale sites, with prices starting at $239 on Vivid Seats. Given the rarity of seeing My Chemical Romance perform their most famous album in its entirety, demand has skyrocketed in Chicago and across the tour.
My Chemical Romance’s Legacy
Formed in New Jersey in 2001, My Chemical Romance rose to prominence with their 2004 album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, which went platinum and featured the breakout singles “Helena” and “I’m Not Okay (I Promise).”
Their follow-up, The Black Parade, peaked at No. 2 on the U.S. charts and spawned massive hits like “Welcome to the Black Parade,” “Teenagers,” and “Famous Last Words.” The album has since been certified multiple times platinum and remains a cornerstone of the 2000s emo and alternative rock sound.
The band disbanded in 2013 but reunited in 2019, thrilling fans with appearances at festivals such as When We Were Young in Las Vegas. Their current tour represents their most ambitious return to the road yet.
What Fans Can Expect at Soldier Field
Chicago concertgoers can expect a high-energy, theatrical production complete with elaborate visuals, emotional sing-alongs, and a full performance of The Black Parade. With Gerard Way leading the charge alongside bandmates Mikey Way, Frank Iero, and Ray Toro, the night promises to be a defining moment in Soldier Field’s summer calendar.
