Nick Nurse’s Golf and Music Festival to Feature Sixers Legend Dr. J

CARROLL, IOWA — Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse is set to host his second annual Golf and Music Invitational this week at Carroll National Golf Club, the course he purchased in his hometown. This year’s event, taking place Thursday and Friday, will feature a special guest — Hall of Famer and Sixers legend Julius “Dr. J” Erving.
Known as an avid golfer who once owned his own club in Georgia, Dr. J’s presence adds star power to the two-day event, which blends competitive golf during the day with live musical performances at night.
Star-Studded Music Lineup
The festival will welcome musical guests Mt. Joy, Purple Wonder, Jefferson Starship, and The Jacksons. Nurse, who is musically inclined himself, even joined the stage during last year’s event to perform “Here Come the Sixers” from behind the keyboard.
This year, the entertainment will also include DJ Ghost, the Sixers’ team DJ, who will close out each night with a high-energy set.
More Than Just Sports and Music
The invitational is held in support of the Nick Nurse Foundation, which focuses on “improving the lives of children and young adults through music, sports, and education.” Nurse’s decision to keep the event in Iowa reflects his deep connection to his roots.
He grew up in Carroll, played at Northern Iowa, and began his coaching career in the state — including a championship run with the Iowa Energy in the NBA D-League and a stint at Grand View University in Des Moines, where he became the youngest coach in America at age 23.
