Salina Symphony Opens 70th Anniversary Season With “Infinite Horizons” Concert Series

SALINA, Kan. — The Salina Symphony is celebrating its 70th anniversary season with a series of mainstage and encore concerts titled “Infinite Horizons.” Single tickets for the milestone season are now on sale, according to the Salina Journal.

Season Highlights

The season begins October 5 with “Beyond the Planets,” a multimedia performance pairing Holst’s iconic suite The Planets with projections by artist Camilla Tassi, alongside music from Star Wars.

On November 9, audiences will experience “Fireworks,” featuring the world premiere of Carolina Calvache’s Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra with principal trombonist Dan Hinman, capped by Ravel’s Bolero.

The annual Christmas Festival returns December 13–14, conducted by Andrew Lipke and featuring the Iron Street Dance Company, Tamara Howe School of Dance, Salina Chorale, Kansas Wesleyan University Chorale, and the Salina Symphony Youth Choir.

American Spirit and Broadway Classics

On January 25, the Symphony will honor 250 years of the American Spirit with selections from Florence Price, Alan Fletcher’s Three American Songs performed by Samantha Rose Williams, and Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.

The celebration continues March 8 with a program dedicated to Rodgers and Hammerstein, bringing favorites from Oklahoma!, The King and I, and The Sound of Music.

Grand Finale and Encore Performances

The anniversary season will close May 3 with Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, a powerful choral masterpiece symbolizing unity and hope.

Encore and special concerts include:

  • September 27: Fiddle Fusion, blending a Mozart string quartet with Scottish fiddle traditions.
  • January 24: The Harmony Games, a family-friendly performance featuring music from Wicked.
  • April 25: Out of the Box at Theatre Salina’s Black Box, spotlighting Terry Riley’s minimalist classic In C.
