Texas Man Arrested After Fatal Stabbing Over Stolen Hair Clippers, Nearly One Year After Attack
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — A Texas man has been arrested nearly a year after authorities say he fatally stabbed a 39-year-old father during a violent fight over a stolen pair of hair clippers.
Robert Adrian Aparicio, 34, is now charged with first-degree murder after investigators linked him to the January 2023 stabbing of Christopher Renteria on Montezuma Street on San Antonio’s west side. Renteria, found bleeding and critically injured in the roadway, later died from his wounds in May after months in the hospital.
The victim was able to identify “Robert” as his attacker before losing the ability to communicate, a detail that played a major role in the case.
Witnesses Say Fight Started Over Stolen Clippers
Two witnesses at the scene told police the confrontation escalated from an argument about hair clippers allegedly stolen from Renteria. The dispute quickly turned violent.
According to witness statements:
- Renteria smashed the driver’s side window of Aparicio’s red Ford Ranger
- Aparicio then retrieved a knife from the truck
- He chased Renteria down the street until the victim fell
- The attack continued with multiple stab wounds before the assailant fled
Renteria was rushed to the hospital, but after suffering cardiac arrest and a severe brain injury, he was unable to speak further about the attack.
Surveillance Video Provided Breakthrough Evidence
Nearby surveillance cameras captured both the stabbing and the moments afterward. Investigators said the footage:
- Matched Aparicio’s clothing
- Showed his vehicle in detail
- Included audio of a witness reading most of the truck’s Minnesota license plate number
This key detail allowed detectives to track down the truck months later.
On Nov. 20, authorities obtained a photograph of Aparicio wearing clothing identical to what was seen in the footage, while loading debris into the same red Ford Ranger at an apartment complex.
Investigators Trace Suspect Through Craigslist Job Lead
Detectives contacted the apartment complex manager, who provided details on the worker seen in the photos. The man had responded to a Craigslist landscaping ad, giving investigators his phone number — which led directly to Aparicio.
The following day, both eyewitnesses identified Aparicio in a police photo lineup.
Arrest Made After Lengthy Search
Aparicio was arrested early Thursday morning and is currently held in the Bexar County Jail on $350,000 bond.
He faces a first-degree murder charge for Renteria’s death, which was classified as a homicide after the victim succumbed to his injuries four months after the attack.
