The Offspring’s Pine Knob Concert Postponed After Power Outage — Fans Express Frustration

INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, MICHIGAN — Fans of The Offspring, Jimmy Eat World, and New Found Glory were left stunned and disappointed Sunday night after a power outage at Pine Knob Music Theatre abruptly postponed the evening’s highly anticipated concert.
A Packed Venue, Then Darkness
Concertgoers filled the amphitheater well before the 7 p.m. opener. According to attendees, the buzz was high and the crowd was ready.
“It was hot, but there definitely was energy and excitement, a lot of people there supporting the bands,” said Brian Madison.
But as the clock ticked past 7, confusion began to build. Equipment was being removed from the stage with no explanation. By 7:30 p.m., Pine Knob posted to social media that they were experiencing a power outage — but no formal announcement was made about the show’s fate until just before 9 p.m.
Poor Communication Adds to Fan Frustration
The delay left many attendees feeling ignored and uninformed.
“It’s after 7, nothing’s happening, and then they start taking equipment off the stage. And we’re like ‘What is going on here?’” said Allison Truss.
Attempts to notify the crowd using a megaphone were unsuccessful.
“I was only sitting 15 rows back and couldn’t hear what he was saying,” Michael Jarasz recalled. “Even when there’s no power, they need to have some kind of backup to communicate to people.”
Concessions Continued Despite Confusion
Some fans also expressed concerns over concessions still serving alcohol while the situation remained unclear. Lisa McCray, who left the venue early, criticized the decision:
“I think it’s really irresponsible to serve alcohol in the heat, knowing all these people will have to drive home.”
What Caused the Outage?
DTE Energy later confirmed the issue stemmed from a damaged transformer, which was repaired by Monday morning. The utility company stated it is now collaborating with Pine Knob to ensure similar incidents are prevented in the future.
Rescheduling in Progress
According to a social media update from Pine Knob, the concert is being rescheduled. Fans are hoping the next attempt is better communicated — and better powered.
“I hope they can reschedule it on a day where all the original ticket holders can actually come, and maybe it goes a lot better,” McCray added.
