Wisconsin Police Hunt 20-Year-Old Suspect After Wild Chase and Vehicle Theft Near Madison
MONONA, WISCONSIN — Police are searching for a 20-year-old Wisconsin man accused of leading officers on a dangerous early morning pursuit, switching seats mid-chase, and later stealing a vehicle after fleeing on foot near Madison, according to the Monona Police Department.
The chaotic series of events began when an officer pulled over a vehicle traveling 72 mph in a 45 zone on U.S. Highway 12. The driver initially slowed down but refused to stop, eventually pulling into a parking lot on Monona Drive.
Traffic Stop Turns Into Dangerous Escape
Inside the vehicle were 19-year-old driver Aniyah D. Kunz and passenger Travion A. Flowers, both of Sun Prairie. Officers recognized Flowers as a suspect who had fled from McFarland police days earlier.
As backup arrived, police used a tire deflation device to prevent escape. But when officers ordered Kunz out of the car, she reportedly sped away, nearly hitting them. She ran over the spike strip and continued driving on a flat tire, making multiple loops through city streets before she and Flowers switched seats mid-drive.
At one point, both suspects jumped from the moving car — traveling around 25 mph — and fled on foot into a nearby cemetery. The vehicle rolled uphill before stopping in the yard of an apartment complex.
“Fortunately, the vehicle did not collide with anything along its path,” the Monona Police Department said in a statement.
One Arrested, One Still on the Run
Kunz was captured after a brief foot chase and suffered facial injuries from jumping out of the moving car. Police continued searching for Flowers but were unable to locate him despite a large perimeter search.
Shortly after, officers received another report of a speeding truck that ran a red light. The truck was traced to an address one block from the cemetery — and investigators later discovered it had been stolen, with the keys left inside.
Authorities believe Flowers stole the vehicle and remains on the run.
Suspect Has Prior Felony Conviction
Police say Travion Flowers faces multiple charges, including:
- Felony eluding an officer
- Second-degree recklessly endangering safety
- Vehicle theft
- Resisting or obstructing an officer
Flowers also has an active apprehension request from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. He was serving a sentence for a 2025 felony conviction involving battery or threats to a judge, prosecutor, or law enforcement officer in Dane County.
Anyone with information about Flowers’ whereabouts is urged to contact the Monona Police Department or Dane County Crime Stoppers.
