MADISON, WISCONSIN — Three teenage boys have been arrested after a violent assault inside a bathroom at Madison West High School left a student hospitalized and sparked outrage across the Madison community.
The attack occurred around 11:30 a.m. on October 15, according to the Madison Police Department, which confirmed the arrests on Thursday.
Authorities say a video of the beating, verified by the Madison Metropolitan School District, shows several teenagers punching and kicking a student repeatedly while the victim was on the ground. The footage, which has not yet been aired publicly, has circulated privately among students and parents.
Arrests and Charges
Investigators say the attack was coordinated and deliberate, resulting in serious injuries to the victim, who was taken to the hospital following the incident.
Police announced the following arrests:
- A 15-year-old boy was arrested for first-degree reckless injury and battery, both as a party to a crime.
- A 16-year-old boy faces the same charges and was also taken into custody.
- A 17-year-old boy was arrested for battery and disorderly conduct and was issued an order-in court date.
The two younger suspects were taken to the Juvenile Reception Center, while the third teen remains under court supervision. None of the suspects have been formally charged yet as prosecutors continue reviewing the case.
Ongoing Investigation and School Response
The Madison Police Department and school officials continue to investigate what led to the violent altercation. Authorities have not released details about what may have sparked the attack or whether it was related to bullying or other conflicts at the school.
As of Thursday, there has been no update on the victim’s condition.
School officials issued a statement condemning the violence and confirming that disciplinary action is being taken in line with district policy.
“This was an extremely violent and disturbing incident,” a Madison police spokesperson said. “We’re working closely with school administrators to ensure student safety and accountability.”
