Adele’s Quiet Break From Music Sparks Fresh Talk of a Degree, Family Plans and a Possible Return to Recording

LOS ANGELES, CA — Adele’s long stretch away from the stage has prompted fresh attention on what the star is doing now that her latest run of live shows is over. After ending her Las Vegas residency, the singer told fans she would be stepping back for “an incredibly long time” so she could enjoy the life she had spent years building.

Since then, the 16-time Grammy winner has kept a relatively low profile, with only occasional public appearances and courtside basketball outings giving fans glimpses of her life offstage.

Reports point to study and a long-held teaching dream

One widely circulated report says Adele has been using the break to work toward an English literature degree. The idea fits a goal she has mentioned before: before superstardom, she said she once imagined becoming a teacher if music had not taken off.

In a 2022 fan Q&A in Los Angeles, she said she wished she had gone to university and planned to pursue the qualification online with a tutor. For fans, it adds a new layer to the image of a singer who has always spoken openly about loving books and language.

Family plans remain part of her next chapter

Adele also made clear before her hiatus that she was thinking about life beyond work. During one of her May 2024 shows, she said that once her commitments were finished, she wanted to have another child and hoped for a daughter, since she already has a son.

She shares her 13-year-old son with ex-husband Simon Konecki, and she is currently in a relationship with sports agent Rich Paul. Reports have described the pair as being based in Los Angeles, where Adele has been spending much of her downtime.

A new film project could bring her back to the microphone

Even with her own comments suggesting new music was not on the immediate horizon, another report has fueled speculation about a faster return. According to The Sun, Adele is said to be recording a new track for the upcoming film Cry to Heaven.

The adaptation of Anne Rice’s 1982 novel stars Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Colin Firth and Adolescence actor Owen Cooper. The project would also mark Adele’s acting debut, giving fans a fresh reason to watch what she does next.
