Major League Rugby’s Championship Weekend Lands in Chicago With Fan Fest, Live Music and the Shield on the Line
CHICAGO, IL — Major League Rugby is turning Chicago into a three-day destination for championship weekend, with events running from Friday night through Sunday’s title match at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview. The lineup mixes parties, skills challenges, live entertainment and the league’s biggest game of the year.
The weekend is built around the MLR Championship Match, which kicks off Sunday night at 7 p.m. CT and will also air on ESPN2 and ESPN+. Fans who attend in person will get a full stadium experience, ending with the Shield presentation and a postgame concert.
How Sunday’s title day is set up at SeatGeek Stadium
Sunday’s schedule is the busiest part of the weekend, with activity spread across the stadium grounds throughout the day. The USA Touch Rugby Tournament starts early on the upper fields and leads into all-star matches at 9 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. CT.
Younger players also get a showcase through Punt. Pass. Post. Push., a youth and high school skills challenge presented by Recover 180. It runs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. CT and includes coaching support from Lindenwood University staff and players, along with a T-shirt and a ticket to the championship game for each participant.
MLR Fan Fest follows from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. CT in the parking lots, with tailgating, food trucks, sponsor activations and a mainstage set from No Limit. The festival also includes trivia, games, a flip cup tournament, a costume contest, face painting, cornhole and a fan board for the rugby community.
Chicago gets the full festival treatment before the first whistle
The league is also using two other Chicago venues to build momentum before Sunday. Friday’s MLR Welcome Party takes over Upstairs at Kaiser Tiger on Randolph Street from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. CT, with a relaxed open-to-all crowd and a complimentary specialty cocktail for guests 21 and older who arrive in full rugby kit.
On Saturday, the action shifts to Navy Pier for the MLR Fan Festival Eve featuring MLR Unscripted. The free event runs from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. CT at the Lake Stage and brings together a live DJ, the 90s cover band Nerdvana and a live interview-and-games show hosted by Will Hooley.
Organizers say the Saturday gathering also includes mascot meet-and-greets, vendor tents and food, making the waterfront stop a broad preview of what the league says is its biggest weekend of the year.
What fans can expect after the trophy is handed out
Sunday’s championship match is not the end of the celebration. Once the Shield is lifted on the field at SeatGeek Stadium, Flatfoot 56 is set to perform in a post-championship concert that keeps the party going after the final whistle.
With six teams having worked through the season to reach this point, the weekend is designed to give fans more than a single game. It combines competition, community events and live entertainment across multiple Chicago locations, all centered on rugby’s North American title chase.
For attendees, the result is a packed schedule that starts with social events on Friday and Saturday and culminates in a full Sunday takeover in Bridgeview, where the league’s champion will be crowned.
