CHAPEL HILL, NC — North Carolina is bringing back its Chapel Thrill Concert Series for the 2026 football season, and the headline act is one fans will likely recognize even if they do not know the stage name. Shaquille O’Neal, the former NBA star and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer who performs as DJ Diesel, will open the home schedule on Sept. 12 before the Tar Heels face ETSU.

The pregame music lineup is part of the university’s effort to turn home Saturdays into a longer fan experience around Kenan Stadium, with entertainment starting before kickoff and continuing across the season’s biggest home dates.

A mix of sports names, country favorites and rock acts

The full series stretches across several home games and leans into variety. UNC football alum Chase Rice will perform Oct. 3 ahead of the Notre Dame game, followed by Parmalee before Syracuse visits on Oct. 24.

Halloween weekend will bring Neon Trees to Chapel Hill before the Miami matchup, while Waka Flocka Flame is scheduled to get the crowd moving before the Nov. 14 game against Louisville. The season closes with 38 Special on Nov. 28, when NC State comes to town.
