SAN ANTONIO, TX — My Chemical Romance is hinting that a long-awaited new album may finally be on the way. During a concert at the Alamodome in San Antonio, lead singer Gerard Way told the crowd the band has “always wanted to make another record.”
The remarks came before the group performed “The Foundations of Decay,” the only song they have officially released since reuniting in 2019. Way also told fans they had kept the band going for years and said they deserved another record.

Way’s comments were tied to a tribute to Doug McKean, a longtime friend and collaborator who died in 2022. McKean worked on several My Chemical Romance and Gerard Way projects, including The Black ParadeDanger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, Gerard’s solo album Hesitant Alien, and “The Foundations of Decay.”
Way described McKean as one of his best friends and said the two had spoken shortly before McKean’s death, which came less than two months after “The Foundations of Decay” was released. He said that after McKean died, “things changed,” even though the band had been excited to keep writing after the single.

Way did not offer a title, release date, or even a rough timetable for a follow-up album. Still, his comments were the clearest public signal yet that the band is seriously considering a fifth studio album since reuniting in 2019.
He told the audience he did not know when it would happen, but said it would be “awesome” if life allowed the band to make it. For fans, that made the moment feel less like a tease and more like a real acknowledgment that the next chapter is at least being discussed.

The band is not slowing down any time soon. Earlier this week, My Chemical Romance announced a 20th anniversary edition of The Black Parade with new songs and cover art by James Jean.
The group also has festival appearances ahead, followed by a five-night residency at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles in October that ends on Halloween. After that, the band plans to finish its touring schedule with shows in Asia through the end of November.
