Monolord Share New “Iodine” Video as the Swedish Doom Trio Prepares for a U.S. Run With Khemmis This August
NEW YORK, NY — Monolord have released a new music video for “Iodine,” a song from their album Neverending, which came out earlier this year through Relapse Records. The clip combines performance footage with behind-the-scenes moments from one of the band’s first shows in support of the record.
The footage was captured at the group’s hometown date in Gothenburg, Sweden, giving fans a look at the band in a live setting as they push the album into a new touring cycle.
A song built from classic rock scale and heavy-riff muscle
Vocalist and guitarist Thomas Jäger said “Iodine” drew inspiration from big, expansive 1970s rock songs, pointing to Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird,” The Eagles’ “Hotel California,” and Led Zeppelin’s “No Quarter.” He also said the opening riff was shaped by the playing style of YOB guitarist Mike Scheidt.
That mix of influence fits Monolord’s approach on Neverending, which the band recorded in Ashland, Oregon with producer Sylvia Massy. Massy’s credits include work with Tool, System of a Down, and Johnny Cash.
How Neverending pushes Monolord’s sound forward
The collaboration with Massy helped Monolord widen their sonic range without losing the dense atmosphere and crushing guitars that have made the trio a fixture in doom metal. The new album keeps the heaviness intact while leaving room for the kind of longer-form song structure that has always been part of the band’s appeal.
For longtime listeners, “Iodine” lands as both a live favorite in the making and a signal that the group is still refining its sound rather than repeating it.
The U.S. tour brings the band back stateside with support from Khemmis
Monolord return to the United States in August for a headlining tour with Khemmis opening all U.S. dates. The run begins August 27 at Thalia Hall in Chicago and continues through stops including Louisville, Atlanta, Asheville, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Baltimore, Detroit, Indianapolis, Austin, and more.
The itinerary also includes festival appearances such as Montague’s RPM Fest, Cookeville’s Muddy Roots Festival, and Austin’s Levitation Festival, giving U.S. fans multiple chances to catch the band live after the release of “Iodine.”
