Woman Hospitalized After Shooting Shuts Down Interstate 65 in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY – A woman was rushed to the hospital after being shot on Interstate 65 south early Thursday morning, forcing authorities to shut down a major stretch of the highway for several hours.

Shooting Reported on I-65 Near Grade Lane

According to Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) spokesman Dwight Mitchell, officers responded around 3:47 a.m. to reports of a vehicle collision on I-65 south near Grade Lane. When they arrived, they discovered that the driver, a woman, had been shot.

She was taken to University Hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Interstate Closure and Traffic Impact

The shooting investigation forced police to close all lanes of I-65 south between Grade Lane and Crittenden Drive. Traffic was completely shut down until approximately 6:15 a.m., when the highway fully reopened.

The closure caused significant early-morning delays for commuters, as drivers were rerouted away from the interstate during peak travel hours.

Police Investigation Ongoing

The case is being handled by LMPD’s Non-Fatal Shooting Unit. Detectives have not yet determined what led to the incident, as the victim remained in surgery through the early morning hours.
