Chicago Man Charged With Manslaughter After Child’s Death And Transit Employee Assault

CHICAGO — A 52-year-old man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and aggravated battery after the death of a 9-year-old boy and an assault on a transit employee earlier this month, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Charges Filed Against Michael Korosa
Authorities identified the suspect as Michael Korosa, of the 5100 block of South Woodlawn Avenue. Police confirmed Korosa was arrested Saturday and charged with one felony count of involuntary manslaughter and one felony count of aggravated battery of a transit employee.
The fatal incident occurred on August 10, 2025, in the 500 block of West Lake Street within the 12th District. Police said a 9-year-old boy sustained injuries that tragically led to his death.
“This case involves both a heartbreaking loss of a young life and violence against a public worker,” investigators noted in their preliminary report.
Assault On Transit Employee
In addition to the child’s death, Korosa is accused of assaulting a 22-year-old transit employee. Authorities said the worker was injured during the same confrontation.
“Korosa struck the employee during the incident, causing injuries,” police stated, though they did not specify the extent.
Witnesses told police the altercation escalated quickly, leaving both the boy and the transit worker in need of medical attention.
Legal Proceedings Begin
Following his arrest, Korosa was taken into custody after being positively identified as the offender. He appeared in court Monday for a detention hearing at the Cook County Courthouse, 2600 South California Avenue, where prosecutors presented the charges.
“The community and families involved are looking for answers and justice,” officials added as the case entered the legal system.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details may be released as prosecutors move forward with the case.
The incident has shaken the Chicago community, raising concerns about transit safety and accountability when violent crimes lead to the death of a child. For more coverage of Chicago crime and court updates, stay with ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
