Peoria Police Arrest 15-Year-Old in June Shooting That Injured 12-Year-Old

PEORIA, Ill. — A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a June shooting that left a 12-year-old child seriously injured, according to the Peoria Police Department.

Details of the June Shooting

On June 4, officers responded to the 1800 block of N. Lehman Road around 6:09 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they discovered a 12-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound. The child was rushed to a local hospital where he was treated for serious injuries.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division, Special Investigations Division, and Crime Scene Unit worked together on the case and eventually identified a 15-year-old as the suspect.

Arrest of the Suspect

On September 8, detectives learned that the juvenile suspect was already in custody at the Jacksonville Police Department on an unrelated matter. An arrest warrant was served, and the teen was extradited back to Peoria.

Police said the suspect was interviewed and then taken into custody on charges of Aggravated Battery. He was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center, where he remains pending further legal proceedings.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities emphasize that the investigation is still active. Police have not released further details on what led to the shooting or whether additional suspects may be involved.

Anyone with information about violent crimes is encouraged to contact the Peoria Police Department at (309) 673-4521. Anonymous tips may also be submitted through tip411 or by calling Crime Stoppers at (309) 673-9000.

Officials also noted that all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
