Colorado Man Found Dead in Kentucky Home Alongside Two Dogs; Suspect Charged With Murder

MCCREARY COUNTY, KY — A missing Colorado man was discovered dead inside a Kentucky home, along with two dogs that had also been killed. Authorities have charged another man with murder and multiple related offenses.
Body Discovered in McCreary County
Kentucky State Police said troopers were called Thursday evening regarding the disappearance of Damian A. Poole, a resident of Monument, Colorado, who had been living in McCreary County.
Deputies with the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office searched a residence on Farm Ridge Road in Stearns, where they discovered Poole’s body with multiple gunshot wounds. Two dogs were also found dead at the scene.
Suspect in Custody
At the home, police located Daniel A. Kearney of Stearns, who was immediately taken into custody.
Kearney is facing several charges, including:
- Murder
- Abuse of a corpse
- Tampering with physical evidence
- Second-degree animal cruelty
Authorities confirmed he was booked into the Knox County Detention Center.
Ongoing Investigation
Poole’s body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy. His family has been notified, police said.
The community of Stearns, about 115 miles south of Lexington near the Tennessee border, has been shaken by the discovery. The case remains under active investigation as police determine the timeline of events leading to Poole’s death.
