Wisconsin Crime Alert Network Seeks Help Locating Vehicle in Check Fraud Investigation

MENOMONIE, Wis. — The Wisconsin Crime Alert Network is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a vehicle connected to a check fraud case under investigation.
According to officials, on September 16, 2025, Abhram Boebel attempted to cash a fraudulent check at a Westconsin Credit Union branch. Authorities said Boebel was in possession of a counterfeit check made out to him and later told investigators he had been approached at a Salvation Army in La Crosse by three unknown men who propositioned him to cash fraudulent checks.
Suspect Vehicle and Identity
Investigators have identified a white 2025 Toyota RAV4 with Minnesota plates SJJ-913 as the vehicle tied to the case. Rental records link the vehicle to 35-year-old Lawrence Kloc of Daytona Beach, Florida, who is named as the suspect.
Boebel confirmed Kloc was among those involved after recognizing him from a photo ID. Authorities believe Kloc flew into Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport (MSP) from Florida, where he rented the RAV4 before traveling through western Wisconsin.
Vehicle Sightings Across Western Wisconsin
According to the alert, the RAV4 was seen in West Salem and Onalaska on September 13, and later in Eau Claire and Altoona on September 14 and 15. Investigators continue to track the vehicle’s movements as part of the fraud case.
Call for Public Assistance
The Menomonie Police Department is urging anyone who sees Kloc or the RAV4 to immediately report the sighting and avoid approaching the suspect. Officials are also asking anyone with similar experiences involving fraudulent check schemes or interactions with Kloc to come forward.
Residents with information are encouraged to contact Lt. Chad Mroczenski at mroczenskic@menomonie-wi.gov or call (715) 231-8517.
