16-Year-Old Chirome Randle Fatally Shot in Frankfort Break-In, Suspect Faces Murder Charge

FRANKFORT, Ky. — A 16-year-old boy killed during a violent home invasion in Frankfort has been identified, and the alleged assailant is now facing multiple felony charges following a grand jury indictment.

The victim, Chirome Avant Randle, was pronounced dead at 3:28 a.m. Monday at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

Details of the Shooting

Authorities said Chirome was shot in the head at approximately 11:18 a.m. Sunday, when Makale L. Marks, 27, of Frankfort, allegedly broke into his apartment on Ashwood Court. An autopsy was performed Tuesday at the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort.

During the same incident, another man inside the apartment was shot in the neck and rushed to UK Hospital in critical condition. That man was able to give police a detailed description of the suspect’s clothing and weapon. Investigators later found those items in a trash can, and they located Marks nearby, wearing only shorts and shoes.

Police also reported that one of the bullets fired went through the wall into a neighboring apartment, where a resident was inside at the time.

Indictment and Charges

A Franklin County grand jury indicted Marks on multiple charges, including:

  • Murder
  • First-degree assault
  • First-degree burglary
  • First-degree wanton endangerment
  • Tampering with physical evidence
  • Second-degree persistent felony offender
  • Felon in possession of a handgun

Bond and Custody

Court records show Marks is being held on a $1 million full cash bond. He is currently listed as an inmate at the Franklin County Regional Jail.
