Lexington Police Investigating Winburn Drive Shooting That Left Man Critically Injured

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Police are investigating after a man was shot Thursday morning near Winburn Drive and McCullough Drive, leaving him hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Shooting Near Winburn Fruit Supermarket

The Lexington Fire Department said first responders were dispatched at 11:08 a.m. on September 18 following reports of gunfire. Crews arrived to find a man critically injured, and he was immediately transported to a nearby hospital.

Crime scene tape surrounded the area near the Winburn Fruit Supermarket, while a police helicopter circled overhead as investigators worked the scene.

Community and Traffic Impact

Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council Member Tyler Morton confirmed on Facebook that police were actively investigating and managing traffic around the scene.

“There has been a shooting that is actively under investigation. Our office has been in contact with LPD, and they are working to get traffic flowing as quickly and safely as possible. Please use caution in the area and seek alternate routes if you can,” Morton wrote.

Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public, though the incident left nearby residents and businesses shaken. Winburn Middle School, located about a half mile from the shooting, was not directly impacted.

Investigation Ongoing

As of Thursday evening, police had not released any suspect description or information. The case remains under investigation.
