Extradition Hearings Begin for Wisconsin Man Accused of Killing Woman and Driving Through Nebraska With Body

LINCOLN, Neb. — Extradition hearings are underway for a Wisconsin man accused of killing a woman in his home state and then leading police on a chase through Nebraska with her body in the back seat of his car.
Gavin Thompson Faces Multiple Charges
Officials identified the suspect as Gavin Thompson, 23, of Dodgeville, Wisconsin. He is facing several charges in Wisconsin, including:
- First-degree intentional homicide
- Burglary while armed with a dangerous weapon
- Hiding a corpse
- Operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers requested extradition earlier this month, and Governor Jim Pillen of Nebraska signed the arrest warrant on Sept. 5 to begin the process.
Nebraska Charges Filed
Thompson’s return to Wisconsin has been delayed because he is also facing charges in Lancaster County, Nebraska, where he was arrested after the pursuit. Nebraska prosecutors charged him with:
- Operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest
- Hiding a corpse
- Theft by unlawful taking of $5,000 or more
Court Proceedings Continue
Attorneys representing Thompson appeared in Lancaster County Court on Thursday for an extradition hearing. The session was continued to Sept. 25 at 9 a.m.
Until then, Thompson remains in custody at the Lancaster County Jail. A judge previously denied a competency evaluation request, meaning proceedings are moving forward.
The extradition case against Gavin Thompson highlights a disturbing cross-state investigation that has gripped both Wisconsin and Nebraska. For more updates on crime and court proceedings, follow ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
