Laurel County Man Arrested After Welfare Check Uncovers Warrants and Multiple Charges

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. — What began as a welfare check in Laurel County escalated into a major arrest, with deputies detaining a man wanted on multiple outstanding warrants and charging him with a list of new offenses.
Welfare Check Turns Into Arrest
The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a call around 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, on Becky Lane, after reports of a man lying in the middle of the road.
When deputies arrived, they found 40-year-old Michael Harp sitting with his legs crossed. He allegedly refused to identify himself. Once his identity was confirmed, authorities discovered that Harp had three outstanding warrants.
Struggle With Deputies
Deputies reported that Harp resisted arrest, leading to a brief struggle before he was taken into custody. Investigators also learned he had unlawfully entered a residence and stolen a power tool, which was later found in his possession.
Multiple Charges Filed
Harp now faces a wide range of charges, including:
- Resisting arrest
- Criminal mischief
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Disarming a peace officer
- Disorderly conduct
- Menacing
- Burglary
- Along with the outstanding warrants
Authorities confirmed he was booked into the Laurel County Correctional Center following the arrest.
