Police Identify Suspected Gunman and Woman Killed in Independence Murder-Suicide

INDEPENDENCE, KY — Police have released the names of two people killed in an apparent murder-suicide that also left a third victim critically wounded near the Taylor Ridge Apartments in Independence.

Shooting at Taylor Ridge Apartments

Just after 11 p.m. on September 21, officers were called to the apartment complex where they found a 33-year-old man shot outside. Authorities later described the situation as a suspected murder-suicide.

Investigators began searching for the alleged gunman, 34-year-old Donald Bryant, and 24-year-old Heavan Glison in a nearby wooded area. Police deployed drones and K9 units to track the pair and secured the scene.

Gunfire Heard, SWAT Responds

As officers searched the woods, additional gunshots rang out, prompting a SWAT team to respond. By 3 a.m., Bryant and Glison were located, both dead from gunshot wounds.

Independence Police Captain Mike Brock confirmed that Bryant’s death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The 33-year-old man injured earlier remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Investigation and Vehicle Search

Authorities have not yet disclosed the relationship between Bryant, Glison, and the surviving victim.

Police are also asking for the public’s help locating a two-door 1992 Honda Prelude with a black hood and Kentucky license plate SOG-514.

The shootings remain under investigation as Independence Police work to determine the full circumstances of the violent incident.
