Heavy Rain Triggers Flood Threat in Northwest Arkansas With Up to 6 Inches Reported

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A series of strong thunderstorms has drenched parts of Arkansas since Sunday night, with forecasters warning of a heightened flood risk across the northwest portion of the state. Rainfall totals have already reached up to 6 inches in some communities.

Heaviest Rainfall in Northern and Western Counties

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, radar estimates show Fayetteville and Harrison receiving 4 to 6 inches of rain, while Russellville and Fort Smith have reported between 2 and 4 inches. Central counties, including Little Rock, have seen lighter totals closer to 0.5 to 1 inch.

Southern Arkansas communities such as Texarkana, El Dorado, and Monticello remain less affected so far, with less than an inch of rainfall. However, forecasters caution conditions could shift quickly if new storm systems form.

Flash Flooding Remains a Concern

Forecasters warn that flash flooding remains a serious threat, especially in areas where storms linger. The heaviest rainfall has been concentrated in northern and western Arkansas, but additional storm bands are expected to affect communities along the I-40 and I-49 corridors through the evening.

Emergency officials stress that even a small amount of moving water on roadways can be deadly. Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to:

  • Monitor local weather alerts
  • Avoid low-water crossings
  • Prepare for possible road closures

Weather Outlook Moving Forward

While rainfall totals vary across the state, the National Weather Service will continue updating forecasts and issuing warnings as storms persist. With saturated ground in northwest counties, additional rainfall could worsen flooding risks.

As storms continue, Arkansas residents are reminded to take extra precautions and stay alert to rapidly changing weather. For more flood alerts and severe weather coverage across the Midwest and South, follow ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
