Wisconsin DoorDash Driver Accused of Shooting Canadian Golfer Dead After Ride Dispute in Sheboygan

SHEBOYGAN, Wisconsin — A late-night confrontation between a DoorDash driver and a group of Canadian tourists ended in tragedy when a 32-year-old golfer was shot dead in downtown Sheboygan, according to police.
The victim, Giovanni “Mike” Robinson, was in Wisconsin celebrating a father-son golf trip when he was gunned down on September 24. Authorities have charged Luis E. Cruz Burgos, 35, with first-degree reckless homicide.
Ride Dispute Turns Deadly
Police said Robinson and four friends had been drinking at a local tavern and were walking back to their hotel when they encountered Cruz Burgos parked on Pine Street.
According to the criminal complaint, the men asked for a ride. Cruz Burgos allegedly demanded $40, but the group refused, mocking him and saying they wouldn’t pay “$40 for five minutes of work.”
As the group began walking away, someone allegedly flipped him off. Cruz Burgos then drove off, but moments later, police say he returned and opened fire. Robinson was struck by a single gunshot and collapsed.
Suspect’s Denial
Cruz Burgos admitted to encountering the group but denied shooting anyone, claiming the tourists were “drunk” and had tried to flag down cars like hitchhikers. He told police that after leaving the area, he made a U-turn and passed by them again but insisted “everything appeared fine.”
Investigators said surveillance footage and witness testimony contradict his account. Cruz Burgos also claimed he didn’t possess any firearms due to a 2019 Florida court order connected to a domestic incident.
Victim Remembered
Robinson’s family described him as a beloved son, brother, and father. A GoFundMe page says he had just celebrated his first-ever hole-in-one before being killed, calling his death a “senseless act” and Cruz Burgos a “monster.”
The campaign is raising funds to support Robinson’s loved ones in Canada as they grapple with his sudden death.
Charges and Possible Sentence
Cruz Burgos faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted of first-degree reckless homicide. He is currently being held in Sheboygan County Jail pending his next court appearance.
