Texas Man Fires Gun Inside North Richland Hills Bar During Cowboys Game After Patron “Looked at Him,” Police Say

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas — A Dallas-area man was arrested after allegedly firing a gun inside a crowded sports bar during the Dallas Cowboys’ 40-40 tie with the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night, police said.

Argument Over a Look Turns Violent

The suspect, David Callum, 53, allegedly told police he became agitated after believing another patron was staring at him inside The Thirsty Turtle Sports Bar & Grill on Rufe Snow Drive.

Police said an argument broke out, during which Callum pulled out a handgun and fired a round inside the bar. Conflicting police statements suggest either one or multiple shots may have been fired.

Patrons Subdue the Suspect

Officers were dispatched just after 10 p.m. to reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they found that several bar patrons had already restrained Callum, preventing further violence.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Charges and Court Appearance

Callum now faces:

  • Two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
  • One count of carrying a weapon where prohibited

He was initially held at the North Richland Hills Joint Detention Center before being formally charged and transferred to the Tarrant County Jail in Fort Worth.

Court records have not yet been docketed in the county system as of Tuesday, authorities confirmed.

Police: Shooting Could Have Been Worse

Police emphasized that the situation could have ended in tragedy if not for the quick action of bar patrons. Officials also noted that the NFL rivalry atmosphere may have added tension inside the crowded venue.

Authorities have not said which team Callum was rooting for.

The shocking incident left many in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex shaken but grateful no one was hurt. For more Texas crime updates and breaking news, follow ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
