St. Louis Mother’s Plea for Justice 15 Years After Son’s Unsolved Murder in Windsor Park

ST. LOUIS, Missouri — For 15 years, Gloria Shields-Snulligan has carried the weight of unanswered questions about the murder of her son, Darren Thomas, in Windsor Park. Despite time passing, her plea for justice remains as strong as ever.
Thomas, a 36-year-old aspiring chemist and father, was shot and killed in September 2010 after an argument in the park. His killer was never identified, and the case remains unsolved.
Remembering Darren Thomas
Gloria describes her son as a brilliant and compassionate man who built a home for his young son and dreamed of a limitless future. “He was one of the most loving, kindest persons. He would help and teach anyone. Anything,” she said.
Their bond was especially close. “He was so intelligent that if I didn’t feel like thinking, I’d say, ‘Son, will you think for me?’ That’s how close we were,” she recalled.
The Night That Changed Everything
The family’s life was shattered the night Darren was killed. Gloria still remembers the moment her daughter came to deliver the devastating news. “She said, ‘I think Derren got shot but I think he dead.’ And I didn’t get to pull the sheet over him, I didn’t get the opportunity to do it,” she said.
A Mother’s Call for Witnesses
Shields-Snulligan believes someone witnessed the shooting and has been silent for more than a decade. She is urging anyone with knowledge of what happened to come forward. “Fifteen years later, the case remains unsolved. I know somebody saw what happened that night,” she said.
Her faith sustains her search for justice, guided by her son’s own words. “My son would always say, ‘God will take care of them, mama. God will take care of them,’” Gloria shared.
