Missouri Mother Charged After Fatally Shooting and Stabbing Her 16-Year-Old Son as He Slept
ST. CHARLES, Missouri — A 47-year-old Missouri mother is behind bars after investigators say she shot and stabbed her 16-year-old son as he slept, later admitting she acted to put him “out of his pain.”
Police Discover Victim in Bedroom
The suspect, Krista Roy, was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action following the death of her son, Carter Bennett. Officers with the St. Charles Police Department arrived at the family’s home on Lightfoot Drive after close friends of the teen requested a welfare check, saying they had not heard from him in several days, which they described as unusual.
Responding officers said they noticed a foul odor before entering the home. Inside, they found Bennett dead in his bed with multiple gunshot wounds and stab injuries. A knife and ballistic evidence were recovered from the scene.
Mother Confessed to the Killing
Police said Roy had attempted suicide earlier the same day and was hospitalized before detectives took her into custody upon her release. After waiving her Miranda rights, Roy confessed in a recorded interview.
According to the affidavit, Roy admitted she retrieved a firearm from her ex-husband’s residence with the intention of killing both her son and herself. She told investigators she lay beside Bennett after shooting him, hearing him cry “Mommy” several times. When he did not die immediately, she said she went to the kitchen, got a knife, and stabbed him to end his suffering.
Community and Court Proceedings
Friends of the victim described him as someone who “loved life” and was “not suicidal,” stressing that the tragedy came solely at the hands of his mother. Roy is being held at the St. Charles County Jail on a $1 million cash-only bond while awaiting her first court appearance.
The shocking case has left the St. Charles community reeling as residents grapple with the loss of a teenager whose life was cut short in his own home. For more breaking crime updates and justice news, follow ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
