BARRON, Wisconsin — A tragic shooting in Barron County left a 20-year-old man dead, his pregnant sister wounded, and the suspect hospitalized after what authorities describe as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officials say the violence was partly captured on video and shared on Snapchat, sparking outrage and fear in the community.

Brother Killed Protecting His Sister

The Barron County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called Wednesday morning to the 600 block of Candy Lane in Barron. Upon arrival, they found a man fatally shot and a woman seriously wounded.

A GoFundMe campaign launched by relatives identified the victims as Tyler Sadowski, 20, and his sister, Makayla Sadowski, who is seven months pregnant. Family members say Tyler was killed when he stepped in to protect his sister during the confrontation.

Makayla was shot in the stomach and remains in the hospital, fighting for her life along with her unborn son. She also has a two-year-old daughter who is now in the care of relatives.

Snapchat Video Sparks Alarm

Authorities confirmed they are aware of a graphic Snapchat video showing parts of the shooting. The sheriff’s office is working with Snapchat to remove the footage and warned parents that students in the area may have been exposed to the disturbing clip.

The Turtle Lake School District issued a statement identifying the suspect as a former student and cautioned families: “Please talk to your children tonight about this incident. Our counselor will be available tomorrow to discuss any needs your child may have.”

Suspect Hospitalized After Shooting Self

The suspect, who has not yet been named, was found at the scene with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital. Police emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the public, but the investigation remains active.
