Texas Father Beaten to Death Over Food Stamp Card, Police Say

AMARILLO, TEXAS — A 57-year-old father of two was beaten to death in Amarillo after three suspects allegedly attacked him to steal his food stamp card, police confirmed this week. The suspects are accused of pummeling the man, striking him in the head with a glass bottle, and then robbing him before leaving him fatally injured.

According to Amarillo Police Department, the victim, Paluku Valantin, was found suffering from severe head and facial injuries after the brutal assault that occurred in the 1100 block of Bluebell Street. Valantin, who was originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, was discovered by a local resident who tried to help him recover — but his injuries proved fatal shortly after.

What Investigators Discovered

Detectives allege that three suspects — Thomas Rendon, 33; Alline Ndayishimiye, 30; and Dashaun Jackson, 18 — confronted Valantin with the intent to rob him. According to police reports and footage obtained by investigators, Ndayishimiye allegedly approached Valantin and demanded his EBT food stamp card.

When the victim refused to hand it over, Ndayishimiye reportedly signaled to Rendon and Jackson, who were waiting inside a black BMW, to exit the vehicle and join the assault.

Moments later, Valantin was beaten and struck in the head with a glass bottle, while his EBT card and cellphone were stolen from his pockets, police said.

Investigators believe the group then fled the scene, leaving Valantin injured and bleeding. He was later taken to a nearby home by a Good Samaritan who thought he had simply fallen asleep — only to discover he had died from his wounds.

Suspects Arrested and Charged

Amarillo police launched a citywide search that quickly led to the arrest of all three suspects within a day of the attack. According to local reports, including KFDA NewsChannel 10, all three were booked on charges of aggravated robbery and murder.

Court documents confirm that Rendon, Ndayishimiye, and Jackson remain held in custody at the Potter County Detention Center while awaiting court appearances. Officials have not released details on possible bond or future hearing dates.

Valantin’s obituary, published by Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation Services, described him as a beloved father and dedicated community member, survived by two sons. The loss has left friends and family in mourning, with many calling the act “senseless and inhumane.”

Community Shock and Ongoing Investigation

The Amarillo Police Department continues to investigate whether the suspects had any prior connection to the victim. Authorities are also reviewing security footage and witness statements to determine whether the robbery was premeditated or opportunistic.

The incident has sparked outrage in the local community, highlighting the growing concern about violent street robberies targeting vulnerable residents. Amarillo officials say they are urging anyone with additional information to come forward to help secure justice for Valantin’s family.

This heartbreaking case underscores how devastating acts of greed and violence can shatter families and communities. Stay connected with ChicagoMusicGuide.com for ongoing updates and stories that shed light on both tragedy and hope in local communities.
