Maine Weather Alert: Rain Returns to Caribou Tonight After Weeks of Dry Conditions

CARIBOU, MAINE — Residents across northern and eastern Maine can expect much-needed rain tonight, as a steady system moves across the region from west to east, bringing the first widespread rainfall in weeks, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.

The incoming system is expected to begin around 6 p.m. Tuesday in western parts of the state and spread eastward through early Wednesday morning, delivering a refreshing change after recent dry conditions.

When and Where the Rain Will Hit

Forecast models show showers starting near St. Pamphile and Dickey by 6 p.m., reaching Clayton Lake around 8 p.m., and continuing east to Caribou and Presque Isle by midnight.

Farther south and east — including Millinocket, Bangor, and Bar Harbor — the rain is expected to arrive between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. Wednesday.

“This will be a welcome rainfall for much of northern Maine after a stretch of dry weather,” forecasters said. “While flooding is not expected, drivers should remain cautious during the morning commute.”

The National Weather Service advises motorists to be prepared for slick roads and reduced visibility during early Wednesday hours as the system moves through.

Morning Commute and Wednesday Forecast

Rainfall will remain steady overnight before gradually tapering off late Wednesday morning. Behind the front, cooler and breezier conditions are expected to settle in through the afternoon.

Highs on Wednesday will stay in the low to mid-60s, with a noticeable drop in humidity. Overnight lows could fall into the 40s, signaling the start of a crisp midweek pattern.

Looking Ahead: Drier Days Ahead

After Wednesday’s rain clears, the rest of the week looks dry and seasonably cool, with sunny skies and light winds expected Thursday and Friday.
Forecasters say the system will not bring severe weather but will help replenish moisture levels across forested and agricultural areas in northern Maine.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather updates for any late adjustments to timing or rainfall totals as the system moves eastward.
