Wisconsin Police Seek Witnesses After Drive-By Shooting Between Vehicles Leaves One Injured in Sun Prairie
SUN PRAIRIE, WISCONSIN — Police in Sun Prairie are asking for the public’s help after a shooting between two vehicles early Tuesday morning left one person injured before both vehicles fled the scene.
According to a release from the Sun Prairie Police Department, officers were called to the area of Sunfield Street and Sun Court around 12:48 a.m. for reports of multiple gunshots.
Gunfire Erupts, Both Vehicles Flee Scene
Investigators say early evidence indicates the shooting involved two vehicles exchanging gunfire before quickly leaving the area.
When officers arrived, they found no vehicles or suspects at the scene, but shell casings and other evidence confirmed that multiple rounds were fired.
Shortly after, a man with a gunshot wound arrived at a local hospital. Police say he was later transferred to another facility for further treatment and has since been released.
“We know there were multiple people involved and both vehicles left before officers arrived,” Sun Prairie Police said in a statement Tuesday. “We need the community’s help identifying anyone who saw or heard what happened.”
Police Ask for Public’s Help and Surveillance Footage
Authorities are urging residents near Sunfield Street and Sun Court to check their home security or doorbell cameras for footage between 12:30 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. Tuesday.
Investigators believe that surveillance video could help them identify the vehicles or individuals involved in the shootout.
“Community involvement is crucial in solving crimes like this,” a department spokesperson said. “Even small pieces of information can lead to larger breakthroughs.”
Investigation Continues
At this time, police have not confirmed whether the shooting was targeted or random, but they believe it may have stemmed from an ongoing dispute between individuals.
