Bullets Strike Vehicle in Madison’s South Side Shooting; 19-Year-Old Arrested, Gun Recovered
MADISON, WISCONSIN — Police are investigating a shots fired incident on Madison’s south side after a driver reported hearing gunfire and later discovered bullets struck their vehicle, according to the Madison Police Department.
The incident happened around 4:46 p.m. Monday near Rimrock Road and U.S. Highway 12, police said.
Driver Escapes Gunfire Uninjured
Authorities said a driver heading north on Rimrock Road heard several gunshots. Upon inspection, the driver found that their vehicle had been hit by bullets, but no injuries were reported.
“The victim did the right thing by immediately contacting police,” investigators said in a statement. “Thankfully, no one was hurt despite the vehicle being struck by gunfire.”
Police believe the gunfire came from another vehicle, which was later located during their search.
Suspect Vehicle Found, Gun and Evidence Seized
Officers located a suspect vehicle parked along Malibu Drive a short time later. Several individuals were detained, and a firearm along with other items were recovered from the scene.
A 19-year-old male was arrested for a probation violation, and a juvenile was taken to the Juvenile Reception Center for further questioning.
“We’re still investigating the exact circumstances of the shooting and any potential connections between those involved,” police added.
The recovered gun will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether it was used in the incident.
Investigation Ongoing
Police are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and residences in the area to identify anyone else who may have been involved.
No additional arrests have been announced, and authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or has video evidence to come forward.
