Madison Police Respond to Reports of Gunfire on City’s East Side Thursday Night

MADISON, WISCONSIN — Police in Madison responded to the city’s east side Thursday night after multiple reports of shots fired prompted a large law enforcement response.

According to the Madison Police Department (MPD), officers were dispatched around 8 p.m. to the 4700 block of Dutch Mill after receiving several 911 calls about gunfire in the area.

Multiple Agencies Respond to Scene

The Monona Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Dane County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene, according to MPD.

Television crews from WMTV NBC15 News, who were on site during the response, reported that officers canvassed the area, speaking with residents and checking nearby lots for possible shell casings or damage.

As of 10 p.m., officials confirmed that the scene had been cleared, though the investigation remains active.

“Our officers responded quickly and coordinated with neighboring agencies to ensure public safety,” police said in a brief statement Friday morning.

No Injuries Reported

Authorities have not released details regarding potential suspects or vehicles connected to the shooting, and no injuries were reported as of early Friday.

Residents in the Dutch Mill neighborhood said the gunfire startled nearby homes and businesses.

“We heard what sounded like four or five loud pops,” one local resident told reporters. “Then we saw police cars everywhere.”

Police have not indicated whether the shooting was targeted or random.
